Is The Time To Get Involved
Your
Participation Will Make A Difference
It is now critical that
SSPO members lobby the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal levels of government
to inform them of our concern over Stelco’s stated intention of addressing what
they call “the high cash funding cost for pension plans and other employee
benefit plans.” It is clear that the
pensions and benefits of Stelco’s salaried pensioners are under threat. We have been told by our legal counsel that
the importance of the political pressure that can be applied by you at all 3
levels of government cannot be overstated.
Since early March, your
SSPO Steering Committee has been actively engaged in the process of meeting
with politicians and seeking their support for pensioner’s rights and the fair
treatment of pensioners caught up Stelco’s financial crisis.
Do not underestimate both
the power and the role of the politician in the crisis we presently face. Politicians at all levels of government have
an important role to play and they must be constantly reminded that we expect
them to carry it out.
We are urging all of our
members to actively participate in this campaign and to engage the support of
their family and friends to do likewise.
