Eligible Voters: 874
Votes Cast: 544
Votes Cast In Favour (“yes”): 540
Votes Cast Against (“no”): 4
99.3% of the votes endorsed the proposed Steering Committee
and its mandate. The Committee thanks
you for your participation and support.
As mentioned in our January 2, 2004 communication we are
making an initial assessment of $50 per member. So far our expenses have been low, however, we have been
warned that some of the options open to Stelco can happen very quickly
and we must be prepared. Therefore
adequate funding must be in place to allow our lawyers to commence legal action
on our behalf if conditions dictate. In the event of
impending legal action, additional assessments will be required to sustain the
fund. Strict accounting will be
maintained and unused monies will be returned.
Please make
your $50.00 cheque payable to: Stel Salaried Pensioners Organization, and mail
to:
2-558 Upper
Gage Ave., Suite 146

Your cancelled cheque will be your receipt.
We would request that members give this matter
their urgent attention.
The Steering Committee thanks you for your support.
Adequate funding is essential for this process to go forward.
Time
for a Mandate
Further to the January 2, 2004 web site posting, the following ballot is to seek endorsement of the Interim Steering Committee.
Do you endorse the
present members of the Interim Advisory Committee to become the Steering
Committee and act on your behalf to protect pension and benefits? The proposed mandate is:
·
raise funds on an
ongoing basis to cover expenses,
·
maximize the number
of Organization members,
·
retain the services
of appropriate legal counsel (Koskie Minsky) and initiate legal action if and
when necessary,
·
communicate with our
Pensioners’ Organization, Stelco Inc., the media, government agencies, and
elected representatives, and
·
collect information
to better understand our options.

period January 11 to 16, 2004)
